'It is important that everyone has their say' - Dungiven community urged to take part in public consultation

Members of Dungiven community are invited to have their say on new proposals to enhance the heart of the town through a Public Realm Scheme.

The plans also include the development of a new Enterprise Hub at 72/72A Main Street (old Hands that Talk building), funded via Council’s Growth Deal.

These plans aim to revitalise the town centre by improving streetscape quality, enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility, creating attractive public spaces, and supporting local enterprise and community activity.

The proposals have been developed to reflect the needs and aspirations of the local community, and council now want to hear local residents' views to help shape the final designs.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 24, a consultation event will be held in Dungiven Sports Centre (Curragh Road) between 4pm and 7pm.

Sinn Féin Councillor Sean McGlinchey has encouraged local people in Dungiven and surrounding areas to participate in the public consultation and to make known their ideas around the allocation of some £7.4 million to the local economy.

It is the best chance we've had in years to influence policy makers and it is important that everyone has their say,” said Councillor McGlinchey, adding: “Submissions can be made up till the closing date on 28 September.”

Once the community provides its feedback, Council plans to submit an Outline Business Case to the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) in late Autumn.

Once funding has been secured, more detailed designs will be developed and consulted on again in 2026.
