The cast of The Rocky Horror Show enjoying a stroll on Derry's walls.
The delighted audience - some in full costume, as is the custom - ‘basqued’ in the risqué, comedic campery of the iconic rock and roll musical The Rocky Horror Show in the Millennium Forum.
Written by Richard O’Brien, of The Crystal Maze fame - ask your granny or granda young people - The Rocky Horror Show absolutely exploded onto the Derry stage on Monday night, as part of its new world tour.
A riot of colour and a high impact musical opening from the fantastic onstage orchestra gave way to the scene setting ‘Science Fiction/Double Feature’ sung by Natasha Hoeberigs, playing the Usherette and Magenta.
Rocky Horror Show stars Brad Majors (Connor Carson) and Janet Weiss (Lauren Chia).
A homage to the science fiction B movies of yesteryear, the song set the scene for the racy, exuberant, spectacle of a stage show.
Having been seen by more than 35 million theatregoers worldwide, The Rocky Horror Show is the story of two newly engaged, squeaky clean college kids, Brad Majors (Connor Carson) and Janet Weiss (Lauren Chia).
On their way to visit their former college professor Dr Everett V Scott (Edward Bullingham), the couple’s car breaks down outside a creepy mansion. As a result, they meet the charismatic Dr Frank-n-Furter - played in Derry by the talented Adam Strong.
It is an experience they certainly will never forget, one filled with fun, frolics, frocks and frivolity.
Let's do the Time Warp again.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe, The Rocky Horror Show has been described as “the biggest party”. The audience on the Millennium Forum definitely got into the exuberant spirit, rapturously applauding timeless classics including ‘Sweet Transvestite’, ‘Dammit Janet’ and the universally recognised ‘Time Warp’.
Not to mention shouting aloud hilariously suggestive comments - again as is the custom - which were handled with superb aplomb by Narrator Jennifer Zamparelli, Irish TV and radio star who has also appeared in RTÉ’s Republic of Telly, The Feat, and Bridget and Eamon.
With bravura performances from Job Greuter (Riff Raff), Jayme-Lee Zanoncelli (Columbia), the unfortunate Eddie (Edward Bullingham), and the gymnastically incredible Morgan Jackson (Rocky), The Rocky Horror Show is not to be missed. As Dr Frank-n-Furter himself, almost, says: “Don’t dream it, see it …”
The unfortunate Eddie before his sad demise.
Hats off also to the uber talented creative team behind The Rocky Horror Show which included: Hugh Durrant (designer), Sue Blane (costume designer), Nathan M Wright (choreographer), Nick Richings (lighting designer), and Gareth Owen (sound designer).
The Rocky Horror Show runs at the Millennium Forum from Monday, August 18 until Saturday, August 23.
Tickets are now available from the Box Office. Telephone 71 264455 or visit: millenniumforum.co.uk for bookings.
