Representatives from Draperstown Bikers visit Air Ambulance NI base.
Draperstown based group, The Sperrin Bikers RC have revealed that this year’s charity bike run in memory of Aidan 'Aidy' Clarkin has raised an astounding £2,220 to support the life-saving efforts of Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.
This fantastic achievement highlights the incredible spirit of community and generosity that Aidy’s legacy continues to inspire.
Aidan lost his life in a collision on the Lisnamuck Road, Tobermore on May 4 2023.
On May 25, bikers from all around gathered to honour Aidy’s passion for motorcycling and the camaraderie that comes with it.
The ride took participants through scenic countryside, culminating in a celebration at The Market Inn in Draperstown, where stories were exchanged, and memories of Aidy were cherished.
A spokesperson from the Sperrin Bikers RC expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating: “We're truly thankful to everyone who turned out to ride and contribute. This isn’t just about raising funds; it’s about coming together as a community to celebrate Aidy's life and the joy he brought to us all. The funds we’ve raised will play a crucial role in supporting the Air Ambulance, helping them provide the urgent medical care that can make all the difference in someone’s life.”
Katrina Hughes, Area Fundraising Manager at Air Ambulance NI, conveyed her deep appreciation for the ongoing support.
“We are truly grateful to the Sperrin Bikers and the community for their incredible generosity. Each penny raised will directly support our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, allowing us to respond rapidly to those in need of emergency medical care. Events like this not only honour Aidy’s memory but also provide vital resources that could save lives in our communities,” she said.
The charity Air Ambulance NI works in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) to offer the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in Northern Ireland. This service provides immediate medical assistance to patients who are critically ill or injured, delivering emergency pre-hospital care directly to the scene with the goal of saving lives, preserving brain function, and protecting limbs. Air Ambulance operates every day for twelve hours. The aircraft can reach any location in Northern Ireland in about twenty-five minutes. On average, the team of doctors and paramedics is called out twice daily, responding to various emergencies such as serious road traffic collisions, farm and workplace accidents, sports and leisure incidents, or critical medical situations, among others.
The funds raised from this bike run will enable Air Ambulance NI to maintain their vital service, which operates 24/7, responding to medical emergencies across Northern Ireland. With the medical team often dispatched at a moment's notice, every contribution makes a tangible impact on their ability to provide life-saving interventions.
The Sperrin Bikers RC is looking forward to holding more events in the future, celebrating Aidy’s memory and continuing to support this essential service. Riders and community members are encouraged to stay connected and involved in upcoming activities that combine the passion for biking with meaningful contributions.
