University campuses across County Derry have received an income of £285,898.08 from renting out their sports facilities over the last two years.
The figures were obtained by Derry Now from a Freedom of Information request to the University of Ulster.
Derry’s campus made £97,487.50 over the last two years, with £46,013.05 this academic year and £51,474.45 last year from renting out their sports facilities.
To rent a grass or 3G pitch for an hour during peak hours, it is £54, but off-peak, it is £27.50 for the grass pitch and £32.50 for the 3G pitch.
And the cost of using a badminton court is less than £10 per hour, with members paying £5.50 and non-members paying nine pounds as part of the sports centre in Derry.
Meanwhile, over the past two years, Coleraine has generated an income of £188,410.58 from renting out sports facilities.
The Coleraine campus had an income of £99,262.78 in the 2022–23 academic year and £89,147.80 the following year.
Prices of renting a grass or 3G pitch for an hour are more expensive in Coleraine compared to Derry, with it costing £57 per hour on peak and £34.50 for the 3G pitch off peak compared to the off peak cost of the grass pitch at £29.50.
Meanwhile, the badminton court is £10 for non-members to rent for an hour, while basic members can rent them for £6.
