Derry to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in support of Palestine.
A Holocaust Memorial Day vigil is to take place in Derry, supported by Jews for Palestine Ireland, Derry - Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Derry Trades Union Council.
The theme of the candle lit vigil is: 'Never again means never again for anyone, anywhere'.
It will take place on Saturday, January 27, at 4.30pm in Derry's Peace Garden - adjacent to the Guildhall.
The vigil follows a motion brought to the January meeting of Derry City and Strabane District Council's Governance and Strategic Planning Committee (January 9).
The motion was proposed by Cllr Shaun Harkin (People Before Profit) and was unanimously supported.
The motion read: "Council will appropriately mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27, 2024.
"During the Holocaust more than six million Jews, and millions of others, were killed by the Nazi regime.
"Council notes the growth of the far-right in many places, including Ireland, and commits itself to the call Never Again!
Council opposes attempts by neo-nazis to scapegoat Jewish people, the Traveller community and migrants, and will work with others to challenge anti-semitism, racism, sectarianism, Islamophobia and all forms of discrimination."
