NIPSA join Derry picket and rally as part of General Strike action.

NIPSA members across the health service, education authority and the civil service will engage in strike action tomorrow (Thursday 18th January).

Almost 40,000 members will be affected by the action which is in relation to fair pay, safe staffing and proper funding for public services.

Members will be on picket lines across the country and will be joined in the action by workers from trade unions across the whole of the public sector in what is likely to be the biggest strike in the history of Northern Ireland.

NIPSA will be holding protest events at the following locations/times:

Orchard House, 40 Foyle Street, Derry at 10:00am

Secretary of State’s office in Erskine House, Donegal Square North, Belfast at 10:00am

Stormont Estate, Prince of Wales Avenue, Newtownards Road at 9:00am

This action will then culminate with a rally of all the Trade Unions at 12:00pm at Belfast City Hall and 11:45am in Guildhall Square, Derry, with speakers from NIPSA at both locations.

NIPSA Deputy General Secretary Maria Morgan will be speaking at the Guildhall rally and NIPSA General Secretary Carmel Gates will be speaking at the Belfast rally.

Tanya Killen, Enniskillen, Townhall, 1:00pm

Ryan Wilson, Ballymena, Harmony Hub (the Bandstand), 10:00am

Jane Scott, Omagh, Courthouse, 1:00pm

Lucia Collins, Cookstown, Old Post Office, 1:00pm
