Bloody Sunday Trust Medical Aid Appeal for Palestine.
Bloody Sunday Trust chairperson, Tony Doherty, explained: "The appeal is intended to give the people of Derry and further afield an opportunity to give some practical support to the people of Palestine."
Derry's Bloody Sunday Trust is holding a fundraising appeal for the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
The appeal will take place in the run up to Christmas.
Speaking at the launch of the appeal Trust chairperson, Tony Doherty, explained the appeal was intended to give the people of Derry and further afield an opportunity to "give some practical support to the people of Palestine".
He added: "The Bloody Sunday Trust has a long tradition of partnership and solidarity with the Palestinian people and Palestinian organisations and at this terrible time for the people of Gaza we wanted to give the people of Derry the chance to give some practical support to our brothers and sisters in the Occupied Territories.
“The daily images coming from Gaza are heartrending and the campaign of slaughter, war crimes and genocide has motivated justice loving people across the globe to demand an immediate ceasefire. Derry, in light of our own history and our own experiences, has been to the forefront of this campaign. This appeal is part of that process.
“As we approach Christmas a lot of people will be buying presents and treats for their loved ones. In light of the ongoing Israeli inflicted catastrophe in Gaza, we are asking people to consider making a donation to this appeal, either at the Museum of Free Derry or online at: https://chuffed.org/project/104578-palestinian-medical-relief-society-emergency-appeal.
"The appeal will be open until 19th of December and all monies raised will go the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.”
As part of the fundraising appeal the Bloody Sunday Trust has also produced a special Christmas card, which will be on sale in the Museum of Free Derry from until 19 December. The cards cost £1.50 each (4 for £5) and all proceeds will go to the Palestinian Medical Relief Society.
Declan McLaughlin, the Trust’s events co-ordinator added: “As the slaughter, the war crimes and the genocide continues in Gaza we at the Bloody Sunday Trust have expanded our efforts to raise much needed funds for Palestine.
"We have been overwhelmed, but not surprised, by the support the people of Derry have demonstrated for the people of Gaza since the most recent Israeli attack on the Palestinian people. This Christmas Card is another way for them to do that.”
