A new photo exhibition opened its door last Thursday at Limavady's Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre. Inaugurated by the Mayor of Limavady, Stephen Callaghan, the event exhibits the photos of Nelson McGonagle.

This photographer spent a lifetime photographing the Roe Valley in hope to save a memory of the the days gone by.

It exhibits the past in different themes such as sport social interaction, farming, street views and school groups. It allows the public to see and understand the past of Limavady and the Roe Valley over time and highlights local personalities from the 19th and 20th centuries.

However, Nelson McGonagle is also launching his fifth and last book called ‘Limavady and the Roe Valley – Sporting and Social Life' including more than 100 photos.

His past four books, full of photography of the past and poetry, were well received by the public and raised £16,000 for charities.

The entirety of the money raised for his fifth book will be given towards Age Concern Causeway and Limavady Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide (LIPS).

His last book is available to buy at the Roe Valley & Cultural Center for £10 and signed copies might still be available.

The exhibition is free and open until February 29, 2024.
