Derry Court: Woman fined and disqualified for driving with excess alcohol

A woman who had an argument with her partner drove away despite the fact that she had taken alcohol Derry Magistrate's Court heard today.

Chloe Louise Mitchell (23) of Pelham Road in Derry admitted a charge of driving with excess alcohol on December 9.

The court heard that police were on patrol in the early hours of the morning and saw a car in a car park with its lights on.

They checked the car out to ensure everything was okay and found the defendant in the driver's seat.

The police noticed signs of intoxication and Mitchell failed a preliminary breath test.

An evidential breath test revealed a reading of 50mgs.

CCTV showed the defendant driving the car to the location and the defendant made full admissions to police.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that after having an argument with her partner Mitchell had left the house and driven away.

She later phoned for her partner to come and pick her up but police found her.

The barrister said that her client had been 'frank and honest' with police.

Mitchell was disqualified for 12 months and fined £150.
