General Election 2024: DUP stronghold of East Derry under threat from Sinn Fein

The East Derry seat may be under threat according to DUP sources.

The seat has been held by the DUP and Gregory Campbell since 2001, but there could be an almighty shock on the cards.

In the Assembly elections of 2022, the combined first preference vote for Sinn Féin's two candidates was just under 600 lower than the combined total for the DUP's two candidates.

And with the boundary changes for this Westminster general election this year the seat could swing Sinn Fein’s way.

And the beneficiary of the seat would be Kathleen McGurk, making her the first nationalist to win the seat.

This could deny Mr. Campbell the chance to become the longest serving Westminster MP in Northern Ireland.

And this news comes from the party’s counters at the count in Magherafelt.
