Joe Brolly | PICTIÚR: SPORTSFILE
Joe Brolly has joined the Knockmore GAA management team for the new season. He will now form part of Knockmore’s backroom staff under manager Ray Dempsey as head coach and selector.
The news about the former Derry inter-county player and 1993 All-Ireland winner was confirmed by the Mayo News.
Brolly has previously dabbled in coaching with Antrim and Belfast club St Brigid's, but he is now set to assume the role with the 2020 and 2021 Champions in the Mayo Senior Championship, joined by former Sligo player Dessie Sloyan.
The 55-year-old had graced our screens for a number of decades, making his opinion on the evolution of the sport abundantly clear, believing the sweeper and defensive approaches were killing the game; he may have decided to get involved with the Mayo club following the introduction of the new rules, which are hoped to make the sport a more attractive and enjoyable experience for the fans.
Knockmore reached the final in last year's Mayo Senior Championship and was well beaten by Ballina Stephenites. Afterwards, joint managers Aidan Kilcoyne and John Brogan stepped down from their roles.
Dempsey returns to the helm more than three years after he guided his native club to their second consecutive county title.
Other members of the Knockmore management team are: Andrew Keane (Selector), Ger Lovett (Activation coach and rehab support), and former Ballina basketball coach Terry Kennedy (Movement coach).
