Derry’s Junior Football Championship (JFC) had a week without shocks as results went as many expected them to go before a ball was kicked.

The most notable and entertaining fixture was from Corrody Road, where a number of costly moments resulted in defeat for Doire Trasna against Lissan.

The south Derry side won 2-16 to 2-10, proving to be incredibly impressive in their performance over the Waterside team, despite looking lost as the game inched towards the interval, but a controversial penalty gave them a lifeline, and they never looked back.

This result leaves Trasna as one of three sides yet to secure a victory in Group A of the JFC.

Sean Dolans did not play this weekend and have a game in hand on their other two bottom sides, while Ardmore conceded for the second week in a row, this time to Ballerin.

Their consolation of the fixture means that Ballerin are top of the table alongside last season’s JFC champions, Ballymaguigan.

The current Championship holders impressed in their victory over Moneymore, running out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-9.

Meanwhile, in Group B, Magilligan built on their surprising victory in the first round by securing a comfortable 0-8 to 0-2 win over Drum.

They are joined by favourites for this season’s championship, Craigbane, at the top of the table with a perfect record.

Craigbane recorded their second victory of the competition in a narrow and unconvincing win over Glack by two points, 0-11 to 0-9.

The final fixture of the group was contested between Doire Colmcille and the Junior League champions.

It was Slaughtmanus that were able to put their first round loss behind them with a comfortable victory over the city side by 0-10 to 0-4.

This result has cranked up the pressure on Colmcille to reach the quarterfinals, with victories from two of their final three fixtures required as a bare minimum.

While Slaughtmanus can use this as a starting point as they look to build towards a potential double this season.
