Emmy Lou Large and her mum Angela
Angela Large has been one of the key figures in the school over the years, starting out as a parent, then on the Parents and Friends Association and now as a member of the Board of Governors. She's not only 'very proud' - her words - for what St Brigid's has done for her family but also for the local community. And she wants the community to celebrate the role of the school in the coming days.
Angela commented: "The education my children received at St Brigid's was second to none. Emmylou (General Practitioner), Roddy (Clinical Trial Scientist at Novartis), and Andy (Vice President at Citi) each pursued different careers but all began their education at St. Brigid’s Primary and Nursery School.
"The foundations that the school established in their lives was a vital factor in giving them the careers they currently enjoy."
As already pointed Angela believes in giving something back so she has given of her time and expertise in trying to help out in any way she can.
"Shortly after Andy started school, I had a conversation with Miss McCallion, who asked if I would be interested in setting up a Parents and Friends Association. I agreed, aiming not only to raise funds for the school but also to foster parental and community involvement in the school’s social activities.
"I continued this work for several years. Later, I was invited to join the Board of Governors, first as a trustee and then as Chair of the Board, a position I held for several years. At the end of my tenure as Chair, I became Vice Chair, a role from which I will retire at the end of this term."
In her various roles over the past 40 years Angela says she has witnessed and been proud to be part of the significant improvements and growth at St. Brigid’s.
The school, she observes, has continually evolved, enhancing its facilities and educational offerings, and fostering a nurturing environment for all students.
Paying tribute to the outgoing principal and the school staff for their dedication over her years of connection with St Brigid's Angela concluded: "I would like to take this opportunity to wish Miss McCallion a very happy and healthy retirement and to thank all the staff at the school for their dedication to creating a joyful learning environment and helping the children reach their full potential."
