Eastwood urges Schivo management to meet union

Management at Schivo NI which recently took over Maydown Precision Engineering in Derry has been called on by a local to meet with representatives from the trade union Unite to discuss the concerns of workers at the company.
The company, based at Campsie on the outskirts of the city, has confirmed that is to make up to 15 staff redundant.
Speaking after an SDLP delegation met recently with Unite, SDLP Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood called management to meet with union and hear the concerns of the workforce.
Mr Eastwood added: “Unite represents more than 60 core workers at the company and historically have had a good relationship with management.
“There are obvious concerns for those workers who are being made redundant, and it is clear to me that it would be beneficial for all involved if management would engage fully in discussions with Unite.
“There is a long history of trade union involvement at this site and the SDLP support the right of staff to unionise and work together.”
Mr Eastwood concluded: “We have made representations to the CEO of Schivo NI Seamus Kilgallon and hope that he will engage positively with Unite as soon as possible.”
