Tessa at her audition for The Late Late Toy Show 2023
1.7 million viewers tuned into last Friday's The Late Late Toy Show which featured inspiring Tessa Evans from County Derry.
The young Maghera girl was part of a group of young girls who performed a popular song from Box Office hit Matilda the Musical.
“I have seen it once in the cinema and then about 18 times at home,” said Tessa, 10, when Patrick Kielty asked her about the movie.
However, a big surprise was planned for the young crowd. The actress of Matilda and previous performer of the Toy Show, Alisha Weir, appeared from backstage just as the performance was ending.
The surprise was completely unexpected and the girls jumped and laughed not believing who was in front of them.
The 2023 edition of The Late Late Toy Show was hosted by Patrick Kielty for the first time.
“I’m still coming back down to earth from an amazing night last Friday. I want to express huge thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s Late Late Toy Show so special,” Kielty said afterwards.
“To all of you who watched, to the brilliant kids who brought their magic and put a giant smile on all of our faces. And, to every last one of you who gave so generously to our Toy Show Appeal – you have made a massive difference to so many children’s lives – thank you!
“Being part of it is something I will never forget – a forever night!”
This year, The Late Late Toy Show became the number one programme of the year to date and raised over €3.6 million to charity.
