County Derry family transform home into Halloween display in aid of local charity

The Swatragh family have decorated their home to help raise funds for the playgroup.

A County Derry family have decided to transform their home into a spooky Halloween display in aid of charity.

Charlene Alderson, from Swatragh, has decorated the outside of her Church Way home with ghosts, ghouls and skeletons for the Halloween period.

She has also set up a Justgiving page with all donations going towards local charity Gran Tots, which her son attends.

Speaking to Derry Now, Charlene said she she wanted to 'give something back' to the playgroup which she has described as 'a great asset to the community'.

The display, which includes animatronic fiddle playing skeletons, has been getting lots of attention locally.

“This is our first year to do this,” said Charlene.

“We have handmade a lot of the decorations.  We chose Gran Tots registered charity as my son goes there. It is a great asset to the community and we wanted to give back.

“We have a large window display, two fiddler skeletons that play music, nine handmade gravestones, a handmade gateway to hell, scarecrow and directions post.

“This is all lit up at night by LED lighting.

“There's also handprinted porcelain dolls, a hand painted door sign and bottle lamps.

“It took us a weekend to set it all up and it takes time every night to set up the lighting aspects.”

The display is lit up from 6pm and everyone is welcome to come along and view it at 5 Church Way, Upperlands Road, Swatagh, BT46 5UL.
