Danny Lafferty has left Derry City and joined Sligo Rovers.
The 33-year-old becomes the first player to leave the Brandywell in the close season, and departs having played his part in helping his hometown team qualify for European football, finish second in the league and win the FAI Cup.
Lafferty first made his Derry City debut in a 2-1 win against Shelbourne back in July 2010 under Stephen Kenny. He returned to the club under Declan Devine at the start of the 2021 season and has remained an important part of Ruaidhri Higgins' plans ever since. Lafferty made 111 appearances overall and scored 16 goals, the last of which came in the extra time FAI Cup quarterfinal win over Shamrock Rovers at the Brandywell.
Manager, Ruaidhri Higgins, has paid tribute to the former Northern Ireland International ahead of his move to the Showgrounds.
“Danny has been a brilliant professional and his experience has been so valuable to me and the squad since I joined the club.”
“I’m sure our supporters will remember him fondly and in particular some very important goals he’s scored over his two spells with the club. We wish Danny every success moving forward.”
