Derry’s sporting giants unite for ‘April Balls Day' to raise funds for Prostate Cancer

The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) and Northern Health and Social Care Trust (Northern Trust) have come together to organise a special charity football match WHSCT v NHSCT on 29 April 2026 at 1pm in Celtic Park stadium, Derry to raise funds for prostate cancer.

Brendan Daly, Social Worker, Family Intervention Service at the Western Trust explained: “We are delighted to partner with our colleagues in the Northern Trust to organise a special charity football match on 29 April 2026. This will support and fundraise for Friends of Cancer charity ‘Talking Balls Campaign’ “April Balls Days” kicking off Testicular and Prostate Cancer awareness month.

“We are very grateful to Derry City FC and Derry GAA who are supporting this charity event. Derry City FC have generously  donated match tickets and signed jerseys to help with our fundraising and Derry City FC players will attend on the day to present the winning trophy! Derry GAA have also donated match tickets and have kindly permitted the use of Celtic Park stadium for this event.  Thank you so much for your generosity and support it is very much appreciated.”

Brendan added: “Western Trust staff along with Northern Trust staff have been training hard to get match ready and have been busy fundraising with the generous support of colleagues, family, friends and the local community for this worthwhile cause.
