Glentoran FC manager and former Oxford United goalkeeper Declan Devine was the special guest at the junior club’s Annual Awards Night in the bright and spacious new Ardnashee School on the Northland Road.
Over 350 players, coaches, officials, parents and grandparents attended the event to recognise the achievements of the club’s various teams in the 2025 season, with the popular former Derry City netminder on hand to present trophies and medals.
Addressing the attendance, the Glentoran boss told the young players to ‘take responsibility for being the right person, both on and off the field.
‘Train hard, get the work ethic right. If you want to be successful in life, not just football, discipline matters. Have the right attitude to training, diet, being on time to prepare right for matches – these are all important aspects to becoming not just a better footballer, but a better person in life.’
Mr. Devine went on to heap praise on the Oxford stalwart Noel Crampsey, mentioning some of the late and great players who represented the club over the years. He also told the young players to respect their coaches for the sterling work they do throughout the season.

‘Be proud of your club. Have pride in that badge you wear in your jersey and your tracksuit. Aim high, listen to your parents and your coaches – the advice they give you will help you develop for what life holds ahead for you. A massive well done to all of you tonight and your achievements were well deserved. Onwards and upwards all at Oxford.’
Christy Moore, club chair thanked the Glentoran manager for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the awards.
‘We all know that Declan heads for Belfast every morning at 6.30am. He hasn’t been home yet and it shows his professional attitude to stop here on his way home to present the prizes tonight.
‘Again, we at Oxford are delighted with the superb attendance tonight. A massive thank you to the players, their parents, grandparents and indeed, our superb team of coaches and volunteers who continue to keep the Oxford name up with the best in the north-west.’
