Derry showjumper Daniel Coyle secured a prestigious international victory on Saturday night, piloting his longtime partner Farrel to first place in the $200,000 Four-Star Grand Prix at the World Equestrian Centre in Ocala.
In a high-stakes competition featuring a nine-horse jump-off, Coyle delivered a masterclass in precision and speed. The Derry native posted a flawless clear round in a time of 39.24 seconds, finishing half a second ahead of British runner-up Jessica Mendoza and her mount, In The Air Z. The Irish success continued through the field, with Tipperary’s Max Wachman securing a strong sixth-place finish aboard Lexington.

Reflecting on his winning performance, Coyle admitted he adjusted his usual "full-throttle" strategy to ensure a clean card.
“This year I’ve been very fast but have had a fence down,” Coyle explained. “I could be two or three seconds faster, but with a fence down. So I decided to go a little slower and be second or third. I went in with that in mind, but that also doesn’t always work—sometimes we kinda just go,” he laughed.
The victory marks another significant milestone for the Coyle-Farrel partnership, solidifying their status as one of the most formidable duos on the international circuit.
