Derry fighters dominate WKC World Championships with 17-medal haul

Team Northern Ireland achieved significant success at the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKC) World Championships in Niagra Falls, securing a total of 17 world medals to bring back home to Derry.

Fifteen fighters from Derry have proudly represented Northern Ireland at the WKC World Championships, securing an impressive 17 World Medals. The teams sucees includes five Gold, six Silver, and six Bronze.

The talented team showcased their skill, dedication, and fighting spirit on the world stage proving once again that Derry continues to shine as a powerhouse of martial arts talent.

World Champions

Gold Medal Winners:- Banaz Ali, Paul McCloskey, Anna McCloskey, Ruiari Donaghey and Jake Brett.

World Silver Medalists:- Mikey Bradley, Banaz Ali (x3), Harry Healy, Stevie Brett, Andy Brett and Isabel Moore.

World Bronze Medalists:- Ryan McCloskey, Anna McCloskey, Leo Bradley and Aylan Ali.

In total, 17 world medals were won by the 15 competitors, with standout performer Banaz Ali leading the way, claiming an extraordinary four world medals and being described as 'the star of the show.'

Michael Bradley , 8th Dan Black Belt and former world medalist, President Team NI, said: “Every one of these fighters has made Derry and Northern Ireland proud.

“Their discipline, teamwork, and determination in the ring were second to none. Bringing home 17 world medals is an incredible achievement the result of years of commitment and hard work.”

Banaz Ali lead the way with a haul of four medals (one gold and three silver).

Coach Finneen Bradley, 5th Dan Black belt and former WKC 7 times world champion, said: “To see our fighters stand on that world stage, flying the flag for Derry, was emotional. They trained with heart, fought with courage, and supported one another like family.”

Mickey Finns Karate and Kickboxing Academy, based in Derry, has a long-standing reputation for excellence in martial arts, community development, and youth empowerment. The academy continues to nurture champions on and off the mat, promoting confidence, discipline, and respect through sport.
