Over the past weekend, two local Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes brought international recognition home after incredible performances at the IBJJF World Master Championships in Las Vegas.
Team Torres Derry’s head coach, Martin McLaughlin, and Danny Lyttle both captured medals on one of the sport’s biggest stages, cementing their place among the elite in the world.
Martin battled through a stacked division filled with accomplished competitors and legends of the sport. His run to the final included a victory over the reigning world champion.
Though he narrowly missed out on gold in the final against the legendary Fabio Leopoldo, his silver medal represents a career-defining achievement and caps a remarkable year of competition.
Martin previously medalled at the European Masters Championships, European Championships, and the London Open this year.

Meanwhile, Danny Lyttle delivered a phenomenal performance of his own, claiming gold in his division. Remarkably, he did not concede a single point throughout his matches. Known for his tireless work ethic and technical precision, Danny’s success in Las Vegas highlights his consistency and commitment to the sport over the years.
This year alone, he has also medalled at the European Championships, European Masters, and the British Open.
