Michael Duffy made an appearance at a fan’s birthday party to make it a day he would not forget.
Fiarchra Tracey made a request to his father to have a Derry City player at his party, and so Paul contacted Duffy to fulfill this wish.
The young fan may have rubbed his eyes in disbelief as the former Celtic player walked onto the 4G pitch to wish him a happy birthday.
Derry City have begun their preseason preparations for next season under new manager Tiernan Lynch, as they posted their progress on social media prior to Christmas, with Duffy being at the centre of many of the images.
The 30-year-old, like many of us, will have been in the midst of Christmas and New Year preparations and celebrations, along with the training he is doing ahead of City’s opening League of Ireland fixture at the Brandywell against title holders Shelbourne, but he found the time to visit Fiarchra at his birthday party.
Paul took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to post appreciation to Duffy and Derry City for the appearance of the winger.
The post said: “Wee man kept saying, ‘Daddy gone get a Derry player to come to my birthday,’ so we contacted Mickey Duffy. Thanks, lad, really appreciated. Topman also made Fiarchra’s day.”

The local Derry footballing talent’s appearance had Fiarchra smiling profusely in the photo, with the child likely inspired to have the game of his life in front of the former Dundee and Dundalk player.
