Cameron Dummigan said it was an easy decision to extend his stay at Derry City, after the 28-year-old signed a new contract to keep him at the Brandywell until the end of the 2026 season.

Dummigan made his Derry City debut at Dundalk in February, 2022 and went on to make 40 appearances in all competitions in his debut season for the club, scoring two goals.

But an injury picked up in Spain in pre-season early in 2023 kept him out for four months, with his season only beginning in May, after which he went on to make 23 appearances. This season he has also been affected by injury, making just one appearance between February and May, but he has now featured in Derry City’s last five games.

“It was an easy enough decision for me,” he said. “I’m enjoying my time here and we have a really good group of people at the club” he said. “Ruaidhri and Paul are looking to bring success and I want to be part of that. The injury came at a bad time, but hopefully it’s behind me now and I’m looking forward to a busy second half of the season.”

Ruaidhri Higgins could be set to make a number of changes to his squad when the summer transfer window opens, but tying Dummigan to a new deal was crucial.

“It's brilliant news,” he stated. “I think he's one of the most complete footballers in the country and he's shown how important he is to the team over his period of time since he came here. I think he's just a really good all-round footballer and he's in his peak years and he's extremely low maintenance but high productivity and that's what you want and we look forward to working with him.”

“He came back around mid-season last year and he's coming into it now so he's shown good form the last couple of weeks, with a couple of decent performances and we know when he's up and running that he's a huge player for us,” Higgins added.
