Local boxing talent will be in action at the Maldron Hotel tomorrow night.
Derry boxing fans are in for a real treat tomorrow night as the County Derry Presentation Show will take place at the Maldron Hotel.
Featuring a host of really talented boxers from a number of different local clubs, the show will, as always, give a glimpse of the sporting talent that is prevalent in the city yet again.
Beginning at 8pm sharp, boxing fans will be treated to 14 contests overall, and there will also be 10 awards given out in recognition of boxers and coaches who have really made their mark on the sport in recent times. Boxers who performed well in the recent All-Ireland and Ulster Elites as well as the Ulster Senior Championships will be in attendance, while there will also be awards handed out for certain individuals who have given great years of service to the sport.
Boxing fans can look forward to a very exciting night of action with representatives there from St. Joseph's, Oakleaf, Ring Boxing Club and Star of the Sea to name a few. The contests will show up and coming boxers from the city with great talent, while there will also be those from further afield in the county, most notably, the extremely talented Eoghan Quinn from Swatragh, who will fight at the top of the bill.
President of the Co. Derry Boxing Board Eugene Duffy, is anticipating a memorable night of boxing action.
“We can all look forward to a very good night,” he said. “There are going to be some really talented young boxers in action and we would urge all boxing fans to come out and support these local kids, who will be doing their best on the night and who are sure to have bright futures ahead of them.
“It has been a great time recently for local boxing with Oakleaf's Carleigh Irvine and Jack Harkin becoming Ulster Elite Champions. They are now in training to go to Portugal soon with the Ulster High Performance team as a result.
“The Derry Board also have big plans for 2024, starting with a trip to Scotland where we will take boxers to compete in the prestigious William Wallace Box Cup. There are also trips to Germany and Wales on the horizon, as well as invitations to compete in events down south in both Cork and Limerick.
“Also, the Ulster champions from last week's event at the Vale Centre will be travelling to Roscommon on the first weekend of March, so it is a very busy yet exciting time for our local boxers.
“Tomorrow night's show is not to be missed, and as ever, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, without whom, shows such as this would not be possible. Thank you.”
Tomorrow night's show at the Maldron Hotel will begin at 8pm sharp. All local boxing fans are encouraged to attend, with entrance £10, pay at the door.
