Foyle Pride Festival 'threw in' on its Pride in Sport Programme, beginning with Sean Dolans GAC for a Gaelic football session.

The session took place on Wednesday, July 24, at their pitch.

This was the first of a number of taster sessions for LGBTQ+ people in Gaelic football, rugby, boxing, and a closed swimming session in William Street Baths.

The events in this programme will culminate in the annual Football versus Homophobia tournament, which is in its 9th year.

When the programme was launched on June 24 at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Mel Bradley, the chair of Foyle Pride Festival, said: “We are building on last year's successful programme working in partnership with local sports clubs to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.

“There are still many barriers for LGBTQ+ people to participate in sports. This programme aims to break down these barriers, improve the visibility of LGBTQ+ sportspeople, and provide a great chance to come together and have fun playing sports.”

The next event is Wednesday, July 31 at the City of Derry Rugby Club at 7pm, before boxing with Springtown Boxing Club in Ballymagroarty on August 7 and swimming at the William Street Baths from 4-6pm on Friday, August 9.
