Man sentenced in Derry Court for stealing six laptops from employer to feed gambling addiction

Judge at Derry Magistrate's Court sentences 34-year-old to an enhanced combination order following "spur of the moment" workplace theft.
A man who stole six laptops from his employer to feed his gambling addiction has been given an enhanced combination order at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
Chibhzor Peter Ndukwe (34) with an address at Clarendon Avenue in Belfast admitted stealing the laptops on July 10 last year.
The court heard that after stealing the laptops the defendant tried to sell them at a business in County Derry.
That business checked with the suppliers after the paperwork didn't appear to be correct and Ndukwe was detected.
A defence solicitor said that the defendant was 'never getting away with this'.
She said the crime was born of 'financial desperation' due to the gambling addiction of the defendant and described the incident as 'a spur of the moment' decision.
District Judge Alanah McSorley said this offence was aggravated by it involved stealing from his employer.
The defendant was sentenced to an Enhanced Combination Order for a period of two years and 100 hours of community service.
