Derry Magistrates Court
A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates Court charged with assaulting police and criminal damage.
Matthew Wilson (25) of Deerpark Road in Newtownstewart in Omagh was arrested after police were called to the scene of an ongoing fight on February 8.
Police initially tried to speak to Wilson but he would not engage with them.
They then spoke to others that were involved and he was subsequently arrested.
While in a police vehicle, Wilson lunged at an officer in an attempt to headbutt them and later refused to leave the vehicle, having to be forcefully brought to a cell.

Later Wilson defecated in a police cell causing damage of £100.
Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that Wilson had a 'substantial record' of drug offences, but not of violence.
She said that his behavior hadn't done him any favours but added that he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
He was sentenced to five months in custody, suspended two years and ordered to pay compensation of £600.
