Derry Magistrate's Court heard today how when a inexperienced driver struck a parked car the vehicle moved forward and struck another vehicle.
Gary Mooney (34) of Elmwood Terrace in Derry appeared on a series of driving offences that occurred on May 11.
The court heard that at 9.50am on that date Mooney was driving on Elmwood Terrace and collided with a parked car which then moved and struck another vehicle.
It was 12 hours later before Mooney was arrested and he made admissions to careless driving and other offences.
He told police he was in shock after the incident that was why he made off.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that it was a 'really narrow road' with vehicles parked on it.
He said that Mooney was a relatively new driver and his foot slipped on the clutch.
Mooney was fined £550 and given 5 penalty points.
