Tributes paid to popular Bellaghy GAC man Patrick McTaggart
The Bellaghy community are mourning the death of popular local man well known in GAA circles.
Patrick McTaggart passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 14.
A heartfelt tribute on the Facebook page ‘Photo’s of Portglennone’ read: “I am really sad to put up the following post of the death of my long time friend Patrick McTaggart from Culbane, Bellaghy. Over the last 30 years or more I went to many Derry matches all over Ireland with Paddy and a few Wolfe Tones games too, what he didn't know about the game of Gaelic isn't worth writing down. Patrick was a very proud Wolfe Tones Gac, Bellaghy member, as the Goalie Paddy won many titles with the club and topping it off with an All-Ireland Senior Club Championship medal in 1972. Family was also important to Patrick; he loved a night's craic in the house with Eileen, the children and later the grandkids.”
Patrick’s wake commenced earlier this morning (Wednesday).
His funeral will leave from his late residence, 14 Culbane Road, on Friday at 10.15am for 11 o’clock Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Bellaghy. Interment afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
A death notice described Patrick as ‘the beloved husband of Eileen (née Young); loving father of Sinead Agnew (DJ), Niall (Marguerite), Eleanor and Patrick (Claire); much adored Grandfather of Danielle, Mollie, Caitlin, Ruby, Isabella, Annie, Maggie and Paudie’.
He is also the ‘son of the late Neil and Annie McTaggart and dear brother of Annie, Margaret and the late Mary and John’.
The death notice added: “Deeply regretted by his wee dog Coco and the entire McTaggart and Young family circle.”
