Causeway Coast and Glens has came eighth in the UK's top 10 destinations for fell running. The District takes in 93 trail running trails.

Fell running is an extension of off-road running, where runners take on mixed terrains and mountains as quickly as possible. The sport requires resilience and grit, and is becoming increasingly popular, with over 440,000 runners participating between November 2023 and 2024¹.

With this in mind, the outdoor experts at Blacks have revealed the top 10 destinations for fell running.

Natalie Wolfenden, outdoor enthusiast and author at Blacks, comments: “The UK is home to many fantastic fell running destinations that cater for all abilities, from the high peaks of the Peak District and Lake District to the scenic routes of the South Coast.

“Although fell running may seem like a natural progression from road and trail running, it is important to ensure you have the correct equipment before taking to the hills. Fell runners often encounter unsteady terrain, so a good pair of off-road running shoes with good grip and ankle support is recommended.

“You should also prepare for any weather conditions. Wearing base layers allows you to regulate body temperature and manage moisture, keeping you comfortable during your trek. You should also pack a lightweight waterproof jacket in case of any wet weather.”
