Mulholland family
A County Derry family are fundraising for charities Dementia NI and Marie Curie in memory of their beloved grandmother and mother.
The Mulholland family, from Magherafelt have decided to organise a charity concert with the funds going to charities close to their heart.
The fundraising challenge is a way for the family to remember their dear grandmother and mother Eileen.
Eileen Mulholland passed away in May 2023. She was 96 years old. She was affected by both Dementia and Cancer towards the end of her life.
Dermot Mulholland (Eileen’s grandson) spoke to the County Derry Post about why they decided to organise the event.
He said “We are a musical family. Music was a big part of our visits to our granny Eileen’s house. So we have been trying to time and way that suits us all to honour granny’s memory.
“A few years ago I had run a Christy Moore tribute act for the Ulster Fleadh in Bangor. So my dad (Jimmy, Eileen’s Son) had asked me if I would be interested in putting that back together again for a concert to remember granny by. Then about 6 months later we got the ball rolling and the plan going.
“The charities we have chosen helped us out at the time when granny was affected. There are very few people and families nowadays that aren’t affected by either condition. So we decided to give back by organising the concert with
the funds going towards them.”
You can support the family at 8pm on Saturday 9th November at The Open Door Complex in Bellaghy.
There will be a tribute act to Christy Moore “just a little bit Moore Christy” by Dermot Mulholland.
The bar will be provided by The Taphouse Bar and Restaurant.
Tickets £15, (donations also welcome) : https://linktr.ee/christy_tribute
