Mayor Steven Callaghan launches the Retrain Employment Academies programme with Marc McGerty, Luke McCloskey and Chloe Stewart from the Labour Market Partnership
Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership (LMP) is pleased to launch Retrain Plus Employment Academies.
The academies will fund 120 people from across the Borough to complete technical training, qualifications, licences, and experience that is needed to secure employment.
Retrain Plus Employment Academies are funded by the Department for Communities, having been designed to respond to a current skilled labour shortage in a range of sectors across the Causeway Coast and Glens area.
Launching the Retrain Plus Employment Academies, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Steven Callaghan said: “Supporting people in the local labour market to find employment is such an important priority for our borough. These
academies are an excellent way for local people who want to kickstart a skilled career that not only pays well but is also very rewarding.
“We have academies across several sectors, some with part-time and full-time employment opportunities, others with weekend work as well as others with jobsduring the day.
“You will receive expert technical training, get real work experience, industry recognised qualifications and licences, and employability support such as interview skills and CV development.
“All candidates will have a guaranteed job interview after completion of the academy, and if unsuccessful our team will help you find suitable employment elsewhere.
Marc McGerty, Manager of Causeway Coast and Glens LMP added: “It is my hope that these academies will remove any financial barrier that may prevent individuals pursuing a career with local employers.
“We are looking for candidates for several different academies, including classroom assistant, HGV, coach, taxi, lifeguarding, security, care and production.”
To qualify for an academy, you must be currently not in employment. You must be resident in the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area, be aged 16+, be eligible to work in the UK, and you must be genuinely looking to get a new job.
Candidates who are underemployed, work part time, at risk of redundancy or on zero hour or short-term contracts can also be considered.
