County Derry saw the highest increase in fuel prices in 2022
County Derry saw the highest increase (21.78%) in fuel prices in 2022 when fuel prices rocketed due to a number of global factors.
The County saw the harshest increase in fuel prices at 21.78% mostly due to the 26.63% increase in the cost of diesel per litre.
Having left 2022 with an average of 178.60 pence per litre, County Derry's fuel prices have also been the slowest to return to pre-surge levels, with a decrease of just 13.35% so far this year.
This is compared to County Fermanagh who saw a similar increase in fuel prices last year at 21.2%, but have recovered best from the fuel price spike out of all the counties across the North with a 14.1% drop.
The statistics, released by Moneyzine, found a drastic increase in fuel prices last year across the UK with a downward trend for the cost of fuel in 2023.
This year, as a whole, Northern Ireland has seen the quickest fuel price recovery in the UK.
In a statement, Moneyzine said: "Between December 2021 and December 2022, fuel prices have soared to unprecedented levels, placing a heavy burden on consumers and businesses worldwide.
"From 2021 to 2022, there were unparalleled increases in fuel prices, heavily impacting people who rely on vehicles for life and work.
"The finance experts at Moneyzine.com wanted to investigate these increases and how they have differed across the UK.
"We sought to find which UK regions have seen the greatest increases in fuel prices and which have made the best recovery."
