Dungiven Slimming World participants have donated 60 bags of clothes that no longer fit them following their weight loss journeys to charity.

The donations were part of the Big Slimming World Clothes Throw, a UK-Wide event that has raised £18 million for Cancer Research since it began eight years ago.

Consultant Valarie Miller from Slimming World Dungiven was thrilled with the number of donations.

She explained the programme helps people get rid of the clothes they no longer need as they are supported for life following their weight loss.

“Slimming world is an easy plan to follow and it is sustainable for life. It's the only slimming company that offers psychological support, motivation and inspiration for life,” she said

“Weight Loss is why people come in the first place but we aim to help people change the way they shop, cook and eat – just to help them make better choices with their diet and lifestyle. We have the 'Body Magic Programme', which introduces activity as well.”

“People who attend Slimming World donate clothes that are too big for them now. Those clothes are given to Cancer Research and every bag donated is worth £25 to Cancer Research.”

The Dungiven group's donation will be worth around £1500 to the charity.

Slimming World became an official Cancer Research UK partner in 2013. Last year it raised £1 million from the Clothes Throw event.

Through this important partnership, Slimming World helps to fund research into cancers related to obesity, 'to build on the understanding of the links between weight and cancer'.

Valarie recently told her weight loss story to the County Derry Post.

“I was overweight, unfit, stressed, tired and completely miserable. Until I found Slimming World! The first day I walked in the door I felt sick and wanted to run but also knew that things needed to change.

“So in I went, and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did!

“After 13 weeks I had lost 32.5 pounds and I began to love life again! Never did I believe it would actually work or that I could actually do it - and that is why I became a Slimming World Consultant.”

“Our members include men and women with many different backgrounds but all with the same dream of losing weight to feel healthier, fitter and happier. Everyone is really supportive of the group and extremely committed,” she added.
