Emerging Derry pop artist Clionagh McLaughlin is ready to make waves on the music scene with the release of her heart-wrenching debut single, "Guess We Tried." This powerhouse track combines beautifully crafted lyrics with modern pop production, showcasing a fresh new voice in the pop scene.
"Guess We Tried" is more than just another breakup song; it's a power anthem. With deeply personal lyrics, the former Thornhill College student delves into the complexities of recognizing toxic patterns in relationships and finding the courage to walk away. The track’s seamless blend of introspective verses and a powerful chorus, encapsulates a journey of vulnerability and strength.
Based in Liverpool, Clionagh said: “‘Guess We Tried’ was one of the most heart-wrenching songs I've ever written. If I wasn't self-aware before, writing this song certainly brought me to that state. It wasn’t just an honest recount of a failed relationship; it was a wake-up call. It pushed me to recognize the bad behaviour I see too commonly in men and to walk away from situations that no longer serve me, and from spaces where the doors are not just closed but burning down, lol.
"This is why I decided that I wanted this song to be an empowering anthem—for all the girls who have struggled with too much bullsh*t!”.
Clionagh also touches on post-breakup vulnerability and its potential for self-sabotage in her lyrics as she sings "I get drunk and mess it up, triple text like what the f**k, I know I'll regret this when I'm sober."
Produced by Adalaide Adams, "Guess We Tried" boasts sophisticated production that highlights Clionagh's captivating vocals and emotive storytelling. The arrangement features a rich tapestry of piano, strings, and subtle electronic elements, creating a lush and dynamic soundscape.
The stunning electro-synth pop sound, infused with electric guitar elements, reflects Clionagh's influence from artists like Maisie Peters and Olivia Rodrigo, embracing a similar storytelling theme alongside catchy melodies.
