ON Monday night the minor championship got underway with a highly tipped Dungiven side having to pull out all the stops to see off Bellaghy. In a tightly contested affair Bellaghy rocked Dungiven early on with a Damon Gallagher goal – straight from the throw in. Points from Gallagher and Cormac McPeake helped Bellaghy into a 1-6 to 0-5 lead. With man of the match Feargal Higgins hitting three points after half time Dungiven played their way back into contention. In the last ten minutes Conor Kelly, John Mullan and Higgins added points to see them home on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-8 In the other round 1 game, Simon McErlain and Cormac Murphy were influential as Magherafelt had a convincing 3-16 to 1-8 win over Newbridge. Ronan Young, Ryan Kearns and Oran Kerr grabbed the goals with Magherafelt in the ascendency for much of the game. Diarmuid Kielt, Cianan McCann, Conor McCluskey and Giuseppe Lupari played important roles on Newbridge's key players. Magherafelt now face Loup in the next round. Quarter Final Draw – Monday 5th September
