BREAKING: NI Weather & Flood Advisory Service warns that nine hours of rain expected later today could lead to flooding in some parts of the north

The NI Weather & Flood Advisory Service has issued a weather warning that heavy rainfall expected later today could last for up to nine hours and lead to a risk of flooding. A Yellow warning of rain has now been been issued for Northern Ireland. It stated: "During Tuesday afternoon a low pressure system is expected to bring rain across all parts which will become heavy during the course of the afternoon, evening and overnight into Wednesday, we can possibly expect to get up to nine hours of rainfall, this will lead to a risk of flooding. "Flood advisories/warnings may be issued." It continued that overnight winds could reach up to 60mph and in some places possibly 70mph. "The high winds can be expected later into the evening and overnight with gusts up to 60mph in places possibly 70mph in exposed areas," it said. "This combined with heavy rain will make for some difficult travelling conditions, possibly disruption to travel especially ferry services along with risk of localised interruptions to power supplies. "Risk of downed trees will be an additional hazard due to the fact most trees are still in full leaf. "The public are advised to take extra care if travelling and to avoid flooded roads."
