A man was knocked unconscious in what police are treating as a sectarian attack in Derry.

The assault happened on a path between Rosemount and the Glen Road (pictured above) at about 3pm yesterday.

A man walking in the area was approached by another man wearing a blue hoodie with white laces and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The attacker called the injured party an offensive name and then punched him in the face.

He was knocked unconscious and suffered a swollen and split lip.

The culprit is described as being approximately 5ft 9", skinny build, about 19 to 21 years-old with short brown hair.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.
