The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, has made a special presentation to Derry City footballer Michael Duffy, in recognition of his outstanding achievement in winning the League of Ireland Men’s Player of the Year 2025 award.
It was a positive year for Duffy, who ended the season as the club's top goalscorer, and signed a new contract that will keep him at the Brandywell until 2028.
At the event the Mayor acknowledged Michael’s exceptional skill, dedication and significant contribution to football in Derry and beyond. He was joined for the presentation by his wife Emily and family, Philip O’Doherty, Chair of the Club, along with directors and officials from Derry City FC.
Speaking at the presentation, Mayor McHugh said: “Michael Duffy is a fantastic ambassador for Derry City, both on and off the pitch. His success is a source of immense pride for our City and District, and this award is richly deserved. Michael’s commitment, talent and professionalism continue to inspire young people and football fans across the community.”
The Mayor congratulated Michael on his achievement and wished him continued success in his career with Derry City FC.
