It was a brilliant double for City of Derry Spartans at the weekend with both Kyle Doherty and Catherine Whoriskey winning this year's Walled City 10-Miler event.
Perfect running weather ensured a memorable and enjoyable event for over 2000 runners who completed Saturday's event, with participants of all ages and experiences taking in what has become one of the most popular events in the calendar.
Unsurprisingly, it was Doherty who took the win, leading home a Spartan treble in emphatic fashion. Doherty was well clear of his nearest competitor, crossing the line over two minutes ahead of clubmates Paddy O'Donnell and Allan Bogle. Doherty's final time was 51.59, a huge effort coming just seven days after taking the runner up spot in the Bundoran 10 miler.
Catherine Whoriskey made it a Spartan double as she was equally impressive showing her pedigree to take the woman’s title in a fast 59.09. She finished close to two minutes ahead of nearest rival Pamela Kirk from Roadrunners AC, while Spartan Judith Storm stronger since illness to claim a podium position in 3rd in 62.01.
