Influential midfielder Patrick McEleney says Dundalk really want to win the FAI Cup.
Speaking to dundalkfc.com ahead of the visit of his former side, he said: “We have still a lot to play for. We are into the EA Sports Cup final and we have the FAI Cup to go into now which we are fully focued on. We have to finish strongly in the league and pick up as many points as we can.
“We all want to get back to the AVIVA Stadium though and that is our aim. We want to win every trophy on offer and the Cup is no different. “
The Derry native is ready to face is former club and while he is expecting a difficult tie against Kenny Shiels’ side he is confident his team mates can carry the momentum from this week into Sunday evening.
“Derry City are a good side and are having a good season. We have had two difficult games against them this season already so we know that we are in for a difficult game on Sunday.
“We take nothing for granted in any game and we prepare the same way regardless of the opponent. We probably couldn’t have had a tougher draw at this stage but all you can ask for is a home draw.
“We got that so we want to take advantage of it. We have had a good week and hopefully we can carry that momentum into the game."
The Dundalk - Derry game at Oriel Park has a 6.30 pm start on Sunday.
