Institute FC took on Linfield in one of the headline grabbing games of the fifth round of the Tennents Irish FA Cup at the Riverside today.

In the end Linfield won 2-0 to book their place in the last eight following a game that produced many talking points.

The home side began well and even had a penalty plea turned down early on but Linfield then got into the game and Institute goalkeeper Marty Gallagher was called into action to make a couple of important saves to keep the scoreline blank in the first half.

Linfield took the lead on 51 minutes through Cameron Stewart who headed home Niall Quinn's deflected cross.

'Stute battled hard in a bid to draw level and substitute Stephen Curry went close on 69 minutes.

The hosts then had a goal disallowed on 73 minutes and Aaron Harkin's protests led to him seeing yellow for a second time and the Kevin Deery managed side were down to ten men.

Things went from bad to worse for 'Stute as the Belfast side then made it 2-0 on 78 minutes through Andy Waterworth in a one-on-one with Gallagher.

Institute's kit man Davy Clifford was then banished to the stands as the temperature on and off the field  simmered over.

Michael McCrudden then forced Linfield netminder Roy Carroll into making a fine three minutes later with the Riverside really rocking.

Linfield held on and it was their fans at the packed ground that left in full voice.
