The Tony Quigley Shakes McDowell Memorial Cup 2014 kicks off next Monday 4th August at Magee Playing Fields.

This is the 9th year the competition has taken place and each year it has gone from strength to strength.

Celtic Swifts are the current holders of the title, having beaten Finn Harps in last year’s showpiece, a game that lives long in the memory of those in attendance.

In what was a fantastic contest right from the first whistle these two teams had a real go at each other, but they just could not be separated as they held each other to a 1-1 draw. The contest was decided on penalties and Swifts held their nerve to win 5-4, with Ramsey saving Sean Hume's penalty to win the trophy.

The Swifts have a very talented team and they will be eager to hand onto their trophy this time around. Standing in their way in the first round of this year’s tournament is Ardmore, a game which takes place on opening night, next Monday.

The other match on opening night sees Strand United take on Ballymac.

The quarterfinals will conclude 24 hours later with Carnhill taking on Top of the Hill Celtic before Tristar take on Derry City.

All games take place at Magee’s grass pitches. All are welcome to attend what is a popular summer football event.

This year's first round draw is as follows:

6.30pm Strand Utd v Ballymac
7.30pm Ardmore v Celtic Swifts

Tuesday 5th August
