Peter Hutton has been named as favourite to replace Roddy Collins as the next permanent manager of Derry City.

Following Roddy Collins' departure on Sunday night, Hutton - who was assistant manager under the Dubliner - looks to be named as caretaker manager of the Brandywell oufit tonight.

The Candy Stripes legend, who lifted three FAI Cups with the club as well as playing a key role in City's last league triumph back in '97, has since managed Finn Harps before making a return to the Lone Moor Road.  Now, with the hot seat currently vacated, Hutton is favourite to take over the reins of Derry on a permanent basis.

However, the race for the job is tight with former Kilmarnock boss Kenny Shiels listed at 9/4 just behind Hutton.  The experienced county Derry native hasn't managed in Ireland since leaving Larne in 2006 whilst Sean Connor - who is believed to be very interested in the position - is third in the running according to the bookies.

Connor, who interviewed for the job when it last came available after Declan Devine's departure, has managed four League of Ireland clubs before moving to Zimbabwe to coach CAPS United.

Meanwhile, another return for Stephen Kenny looks unlikely as the Dundalk boss continues to win fans in Oriel Park.
