Dungannon Swifts 2

Institute 2

Where would Institute be without Stephen O’Flynn?

The Cork man, at the heart of ‘Stute’s Championship win last season, struck twice on the opening day at Stangmore Park to rescue a point just when it seemed ‘Stute were heading towards defeat.

O’Flynn had given them the lead midway through the first half.

O’Flynn picked the ball up with his back to goal 25 yards out, and rather than find Declan McKeever on space on his left, he sent a brilliant shot across goal which arrowed past Coleman and into the bottom corner of the net.

But Dungannon hit back strongly in the second half and they got back into the game ten minutes from time when Gary Liggett pounced after a mistake from Colm McLaughlin to head the hosts level.

Dungannon went ahead two minutes later when Ryan Harpur scored from the penalty spot and it seemed as if it was all over for ‘Stute.

But deep into stoppage time, Jamie McIntyre dug the all out and crossed for O’Flynn who was in the right place at the right time again to rescue a valuable point for the Drumahoe club.
