Final preparations are underway for this year’s Lough Neagh Triathlon sponsored by Acti-Snack, taking place in Ballyronan on Saturday 16th August 2014 (midday).  Triathletes from near and far will descend upon Ballyronan to take part in a race which has become legendary in triathlon circles.  With the race entry selling out, the popularity of triathlon continues to grow.

The event, sponsored by Acti-Snack and organised by Hi Elbow Triathlon Club, Cookstown District Council and Traad and Ballyronan Ballinderry Development Association, will be over the sprint distance of a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5Km run.  A shorter Super Sprint race, aimed at those new to triathlon, is also being promoted, starting at 12.20 pm. A new addition for the triathlon is a children’s event at 10:30am, designed for young people aged 4 – 15 years old.

The course is a multi-lapped, spectator friendly course, designed to offer competitors as much safety as possible, and to give spectators a great view of the action.  The swim section will be a triangular course starting and finishing on the beach.  The cycle course takes in the Ballynagarve Road, Loves Road, Carraloan Road and Ballyronan Road.  For the first time the run course will take in the Ballyronan “Woodland Trail” before covering an ‘out and back’ course along the Ballynagarve Road.  Delays will be expected in Ballyronan and on the course between midday and 2pm.
