Republic of Ireland defender Shane Duffy signed for Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday in a deal understood to be worth over €4 million.

But some "fans" at Duffy's former club Blackburn Rovers have vented their feelings on social media.

Duffy, from Derry, is looking forward to playing at the Chris Hughton managed English south coast Championship side.

And he won't be missing some of the abusive Ewood Park club supporters.

Duffy's dad, Brian, who hails from Letterkenny, has taken to social media to express disappointment with some of the comments made since the move was announced.

He highlighted how one "fan" said that Duffy can now "F...off" and there was also a reference to the IRA and "you bunch of thick Irish b*****ds."

Regarding the often disgusting and vulgar messages that he has been getting during the week, Brian Duffy stated: "Good job we are thick skinned. "

But it wasn't all negative from Blackburn fans.

One commented that the club had done "good business" as they had made a healthy profit on the sale of Duffy.
