A SHAKE up of underage football that would see minor football become under-17 tops the bill of the 63 motions proposed for the GAA’s Annual Congress is passed at the end of February.
There are actually three motions pertaining to minor football on the list, though the one most likely to grab headlines is motion 53, which proposes changing the age limit to 17.
Southern clubs and counties appear to be in favour of the motion. Making minor football under-17 would avoid a clash with the Leaving Cert exams in the Republic. It would also avoid a clash with A-Level exams, but would instead be putting games in conflict with AS exams.
