Warrenpoint 0
Institute 1
Paul McVeigh struck in the final minute to earn Institute all three points against Warrenpoint on Friday night.
With ten man Warrenpoint moments from holding on for a point, and with rain teeming down, McVeigh’s shot squeezed past goalkeeper Marron and into the net to spark great celebrations amongst the visitors.
The three points puts seven points between the teams in the Danske Bank Premiership, with Warrenpoint stuck to the bottom of the table, while ‘Stute move, temporarily, up to eighth.
It was exactly what 'Stute deserved after a game, played in difficult conditions, they dominated throughout.
During the first half Stephen Curry proved a threat down the right wing while Dwayne McManus perhaps came closest with an effort from a passing move which Marron did well to keep out.
Stephen O'Flynn also came close with Stephen McCabe having Warrenpoint's best effort on 40 minutes with a low drive held by Eugene Ferry.
'Point were reduced to ten men five minutes after the break following Darren King's second bookable offence but, ironically, Barry Gray's side had the best chance after that when Daniel Hughes got on the end of a ball over the top only to send his shot just wide of the target as Ferry advanced.
But it was ‘Stute who struck decisively, with McVeigh grabbing his first goal for the club with time running out.
